Maggie

Maggie has had quite the week. Her ears are still bad. On Wednesday night, she spiked a 104.6 degree fever. I just waited to take her in for her 9 month appointment on Thursday. It was a long night though! Her ears were still quite infected. She ended up getting a shot of rocephin and was scheduled to have two more the next two days. They make you wait for 20 minutes to make sure there is no reaction. She was fine and we were out of there. She weighed 17lbs 3oz (20%) and was 27.5inches long (40%). Her head was 46cm (95%). She's very healthy other than the ears and is doing great. So, today I took her back in for her quick nurse visit and second rocephin shot. She had the shot and was all dressed and sitting in her car seat sleeping while we waited the 20 minutes. They make you take their clothes off to check for a reaction. She was covered in splotches and her legs were hot and had a local reaction. We were there for close to two hours total! No more rocephin for Maggie. Believe it or not, this is the first allergic reaction our kids have had to medicine. Dan is home and he is outside playing in the kiddie pool with Micah and Maelea. They just went canoeing in our pond.

Appointment update

Micah's ENT appointment went well on Friday. She ended up giving him something for his pink eye so we did not have to go to the peditrician afterall! She took out one of his tubes... yuck! We got to bring it home in a little case if anyone wants to see it:) Micah's foot is healing nicely. He needs another x-ray in two weeks. Saturday we went to a surprise birthday party for my friend Shari from Spring Arbor. We brought my friend Emily home with us for the night and she went to church with us on Sunday. It was nice to catch up with everyone. Maggie continued her fussiness and on Monday she woke up with a fever. I took her in and she has a double ear infection! She is still running a fever and now has diarrhea. I was hoping we could wait until Thursday for her 9 month check-up but I might have to take her back in tomorrow. She is sleeping a LOT. I feel so bad for her. Tomorrow is Kindergarten roundup for Micah and his IEP meeting. We are looking forward to some sunshine around here.

Crazy week

Sorry it's been so long since the last post. Dan has been gone all week so it's been a little hectic around here. Our Easter weekend was completely ruined it seemed. Saturday morning I had my ear re-checked. I was feeling a little better but not totally. The pain had moved from in my ear to around my ear. I started to get a migraine around 4:00. We went to a game night at our friend's house and we ended up leaving early (if you know me at all you know I was really sick to leave any sort of social function early) and I threw up about a mile down the road. I get migraine's occasionally but I have never ever thrown up! Well, I was feeling terrible to say the least. I called the on call nurse and we ended up in the ER. I ended up having a CT scan of my head. They were worried that I could have infection in the bone in my head! It was kind of scary actually. Everything was fine though. It was just the cellulitis that had spread down my neck and behind my ear. I got another dose of rocephyn and they sent us home. We didn't get home until 2am. No church on Sunday obviously. I was totally wiped out all day on Sunday.

Micah's foot is doing ok. He walks on it but today he was really in pain again and it is quite bruised. He has another x-ray Friday at 3:30. We'll see. (It's late and I should be in bed I know) He also came home today with pink-eye. Lovely. So now he has three appointments tomorrow. 10:00 ENT at Bronson, 1:40 Pediatrician, 3:30 Orthopedic.

Last night (Wednesday) we went to visit Dan and went out to dinner and went to Wal-Mart! Woohoo! It was nice to see him but we didn't get home until after midnight.

I need to get to bed now too because it's super late and we have to be up early (for us) for his first appointment.

It's broken!

It's been a LONG day today. Micah had his x-ray at 1:50 today. The pediatrician didn't see a break but still thought something wasn't quite right so we went to see an orthopedic doctor. As we were sitting in the waiting room, I pulled out the films and clearly found the break! I showed it to my mom so there was a witness:) Even better yet, the ortho doctor missed it too! I guess I am the mom and I know it all and I'm the best.... ok whatever! I'm not happy that it's broken but I knew it was and think it's funny that these doctors have all of this training and missed it! Oh well, no cast, just an ace bandage and he'll be better in 4 weeks. I think Dan's going to try to rig up something to help him get around with. He crawls and hops around and is really tired of that. Good news- Dan is home, I got a new phone for $10, and we had a Good Friday Underground service tonight which was really interesting. My ear is still hurting kind of bad but I have an appointment in the morning.

All in one day!

Wow! Where do I even begin? First of all, let me just say that Dan has been working out of town all week. Micah has been on spring break all week. Today, when I was getting out of the shower, I hear Micah and Maelea singing "no more monkeys jumping on the bed" really loudly. Then I hear Micah screaming LOUDLY. I let it go for a bit then went in and checked on him. He said Maelea pushed him off the bed. I walked out of the room and thought they would just figure it out. No. Micah came crawling to me saying he couldn't walk. I made him try a few times. His foot was starting to swell pretty much right away. I put a bag of frozen peas on it and he watched a video. I ended up taking him in to get it checked. No x-ray tech working today of course. They wrapped it in an ace bandage. Picture this. Micah in the stroller, Maggie in the car seat and Maelea walking all going into the doctor's office. I was a mess! I gave Maggie my phone to play with during the appointment. The nurse helped us out to the van. I get everyone all buckled up and realize that I didn't make the appointment for tomorrow! I tried calling from my phone in the parking lot and the receptionist couldn't hear me. So, I went back in (by myself) to make the appointment. I take the kids to Grandma and Grandpa Martin's house (they are spending the night) and realize that my ear is KILLING me. It hurt really bad last night and I couldn't sleep very well. I ended up calling to get an appointment for myself. Good thing I got in! I have cellulitis in my ear and it hurts VERY bad! I got a shot of rocephin too. I have to go back in on Saturday to get re-checked. I guess it could have been really bad and I would have ended up in the hospital! Yikes! By the way, my phone has died too! That's all. I did go out to eat with our small group from church and had a really nice time. Maggie and I are home and going to sleep wonderfully tonight! I'll keep you updated on Micah tomorrow.

Easter Eggs!

Here are some pictures of our adventures in Easter Eggs! There are also a couple of pictures of the kids with Maggie. She has been very cranky lately. They kind of sum up her moods lately, all in about 5 seconds. The first picture of Micah and Maelea are of them eating pigs in a blanket and watching a rented movie in our bed. Since Dan was out of town, we had our own little "party" I guess.

Hike

We went to Kellogg Forest on Saturday for a little hike. We didn't go far because of the mud. We took some snacks with us and just played around. Micah and Maelea love just playing with sticks and throwing stuff in the water.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In other news, Maelea continues to have "junky" eyes. These are a couple of pictures from a few days ago. You can see she cleans up nicely though. Is it just me or does she look older than a 2 year old? AGH!

OT evaluation

Micah had his OT evaluation Monday morning. He did great! I feel like he is such a different kid lately! They did find that he has a hyper sensitive gag reflex. That can answer some of the swallowing difficulties. He also does not use both of his eyes when he draws/writes. His eyes do not cross "center line" or something like that. Basically, he uses his right hand to draw/write and only uses his right eye. I can't explain it very well. I'll get back to you on that one. It's late:) He will go once a week for some therapy for both of these issues. It was such a relief to go out of there with no big problems and some answers too! For all of you southern readers, we had another snowfall last night! It's nothing compared to our friends Celeste and Eric who have a few feet still! So much for spring break! More pictures coming soon of our Saturday hike.

Conjunctivitis

Maelea woke up today with a lot of "gunk" in her eye. This is nothing new but it was worse than normal. I took her to the Dr. to get some eye drops. Putting eye drops in a two year is quite difficult. Otherwise, we are doing just fine around here. Maggie and Micah are finishing up their antibiotics from last week. Micah hasn't had any problems with swallowing since starting his acid-reflux medicine. Monday he has his OT evaluation. Time for bed!
